CoreTemp Australia was engaged by Webster Construction to deliver the complete mechanical services package for the IMED Radiology extension at Peninsula Private Hospital.
Working within an operational healthcare environment and an accelerated construction programme, our experienced team delivered a technically complex solution incorporating heating, cooling, ventilation, hospital-grade filtration, controls, switchboards and coordination with essential building services.
This was not a simple installation. Restricted ceiling space, lead-lined walls and ceilings, medical gas services and multiple trade interfaces required detailed planning from the outset. Every element needed to be carefully coordinated to ensure the completed system met the environmental, operational and safety requirements of a modern medical imaging facility.
Services Provided
With extensive experience delivering technically complex commercial and healthcare projects, CoreTemp Australia provided a fully coordinated mechanical services solution for the IMED Radiology extension.
Our scope included the design, supply, installation and commissioning of the following:
- System Design and Multi-Trade Coordination
Working alongside Webster Construction and the wider project team, CoreTemp planned and coordinated the mechanical services package around the facility’s clinical requirements, restricted ceiling spaces and accelerated programme. Every duct, pipe, cable tray and building service needed to be carefully positioned to avoid clashes and ensure all trades could work successfully within the available space. - Mitsubishi Electric VRF Two-Pipe Heat Recovery System
A Mitsubishi Electric VRF two-pipe heat recovery system was installed to provide reliable and flexible climate control throughout the radiology extension. The system incorporated a combination of ducted and cassette fan coil units, allowing the heating and cooling solution to respond to the requirements of different rooms and clinical spaces across the facility. - Hospital-Grade Air Filtration
Hospital-grade air filtration was installed throughout the project to support the stringent environmental requirements of a modern medical imaging department. The filtration system formed an important part of maintaining a controlled and comfortable environment for patients, clinical staff and specialised equipment. - Fantech Ventilation Systems
Fantech ventilation systems were integrated to provide the required fresh air and exhaust solutions throughout the extension. These systems were coordinated with the wider mechanical installation to support air quality, compliance and the operational needs of the new radiology facilities. - Mechanical Services Switchboards and BMS Integration
CoreTemp completed the installation of dedicated mechanical services switchboards and integrated the heating and cooling system into the hospital’s Building Management System. This provides centralised monitoring and control of the mechanical services, supporting ongoing system management and operational performance. - Fire Services Integration
Our team coordinated closely with the fire services contractor to complete all required interfaces between the mechanical and fire protection systems. This ensured the systems operated together correctly and met the project’s safety and compliance requirements.
- Medical Gas Services Coordination and Extensions
CoreTemp worked alongside the hydraulic contractor to coordinate the extension and connection of medical gas services required for the new radiology facilities. This added another layer of complexity to the project and required close collaboration across multiple trades. - Lead-Lined Wall and Ceiling Penetrations
The radiology environment required lead-lined walls and ceilings to shield specialised imaging equipment. Any service penetrations through these areas required detailed planning, specialised installation methods and lead flashing to maintain the integrity of the shielding throughout the facility. - Testing, Commissioning and Handover
All systems were tested and commissioned to confirm correct operation before handover. The completed installation was delivered within the required programme and prepared for integration into the hospital’s ongoing operational and maintenance procedures.
Outcome
The IMED Radiology extension demonstrates CoreTemp Australia’s capability in delivering complex mechanical services within highly specialised healthcare environments.
Despite the restricted ceiling space, lead-lined construction, multiple essential service interfaces and accelerated programme, the project was successfully completed through early coordination, detailed planning and proactive communication between all project stakeholders.
The completed system provides reliable climate control, hospital-grade filtration, integrated ventilation and coordinated building services throughout the new radiology facility.
The project further strengthened CoreTemp Australia’s healthcare capability and reinforced our strong working relationship with Webster Construction. With extensive experience delivering medical facilities, Webster Construction continues to build an impressive portfolio within this specialised sector, and we look forward to partnering on future healthcare projects.
